In order to understand and memorize Russian prepositions, look at the illustrations below showing them in the two-dimensional space. When you read examples, notice that you need to read about cases of Russian nouns in order to understand which case to use after each preposition.

Examples with Russian prepositions

Notice, that all translations of Russian nouns and verbs between semicolons are written in initial and infinitive forms.

Суп в холодильнике – Soup in in the refrigerator (суп – soup, холодильник – refrigerator)

Мой брат идёт в школу – My brother goes to school (брат – brother, школа – school)

Парковка находится сзади этого здания – The parking is located behind this building (находиться – to be located/to be, здание – building)

Что можно положить под стол? – What one can put under table?

Что это  внутри твоего рюкзака? – What is it inside your backpack? (рюкзак – backpack)

Сейчас я занят, но после ужина я буду свободен – Now I am busy but after dinner I will be free (свободный – free, занятый – busy, ужин – dinner)

Можешь привезти мне документы до конца рабочего дня? – Can you bring me the documents before the end of workday? (привозить/привезти – to bring, документы – documents, конец – end, рабочий день – workday)

Мой друг стоял рядом со мной – My friend was standing next to me (Друг – friend)

Я слушал громкую музыку после одиннадцати часов вечера – I listened to loud music after eleven o’clock at evening (громкий – loud, музыка – music, час – hour, вечер – evening)
